History 


The golden retriever was originally bred in Scotland in the mid-19th century. 


At that time while fowl hunting was a popular sport for the wealthy Scottish elites but the existing Retriever breeds were inadequate of retrieving down game from both water and land consequently the best water spaniels were crushed with the existing retrievers resulting in the establishment of the breed today known as the golden retriever.

They first came to North America in the 1920s they were loved and became popular for their excellent temperaments and beautiful appearance in 1925 the American Kennel Club registered the golden retriever as an official breed


The golden has held that position in the top 10 list of most popular dog breeds in the United States for decades they're currently ranked number 3 out of 195 dogs. 


They're cousins the Labrador retriever have held down the top spot for 28 years.


Their Nature 



Golden retrievers are one of the most cool headed dogs out of the various dog breeds all over the world.


They're calm loyal lovely and family friendly they get well together with children and other dogs as well with enough training that can get well together with smaller pets such as cats and rabbits as well


They're cool, obedient and easy to train


Temperament makes them one of the most loved dog breeds all over the world they also have a high tolerance to pain and can tolerate injuries that other dogs mostly can't. 


Characteristics 



They're extremely versatile dogs Golden retrievers are intelligent easy to train loyal and obedient these characteristics allow the breed to be used in various fields. 


We know that these dogs are great family dogs but it does not just end Golden retrievers are great service dogs and therapy dogs as well they're super keen sense of smell allows them to pin down smuggler smuggling drugs which makes them great service dogs. 


They also take the spot for the fourth most intelligent dog breed in the world. 


The cute and calm nature also helps them to be great therapy dogs.


Great Swimmers



They're incredible swimmers unlike many other dogs golden retrievers love water and or actually really good swimmers their water loving characteristics stem from their history originally these dogs were bred to hunt waterfowl (A type of Duck) around lakes rivers and swamps so naturally they needed a swim to retrieve hunted fowls which results in today's golden retrievers love for water and swimming their large webbing between the toes and long tail to aid in the steering makes them water based dogs


Grooming 



They need a lot of grooming 


Golden retrievers have lustrous beautiful and water-repellent double coats which they usually shed twice every year


Golden retrievers tend to shed their coat seasonal he wants during spring and once during fall but it doesn't mean they don't shed during summer in winter at all. 


They do shed moderately during summer and winter but heavily during spring and fall. 


The golden retriever`s thick coat needs lots of grooming, daily brushing is recommended to prevent tangling.


Your golden will also need a bath at least once a month often more frequently to keep him looking and smelling clean. 


Golden retrievers Separation-anxiety 



They're extremely prone to separation anxiety golden retrievers or dogs that do extremely well in the presence of others but the opposite might be just as true golden retrievers don't do well alone


These dogs tend to become sad and even depressed when left alone for long periods of time experts say that they shouldn't be left alone for more than seven hours so if you have to leave your dog alone in your house for a long time this breed might not be the one for you.


Health 



They are prone to obesity. 


Golden retrievers are usually healthy playful and happy dogs but they do have some health issues out of all the health problems the most common is obesity


Golden retrievers have a knack for eating whatever they think is edible they might even eat crayons and other household items you have to be on constant checkout for your golden and also they tend to overeat they won't say no to a treat when they're full so they might easily get overweight. 



The owner must keep a check on how much you feed your dog based on the docs physique and overall exercise. 


Some other major health problems in this breed are -:


  • Hip dyspepsia
  • Eye problems and 
  • Epilepsy


Training and Exercises



They need high levels of exercise. 


They are very easy to train being so smart it is no wonder that the golden retriever is an easy dog to train whenever we use positive reinforcement and never punishment they will give us amazing results.


Of course you have to put some effort into training them they catch and collect things by instinct this is not true Retriever dogs have to be trained to learn to catch and collect brain objects well



If you want your golden retriever to have a soft bite you will need to start their training when they are puppies during the socialization process golden retrievers can work tirelessly this myth applies to many different dog breeds it is simply wrong to think that any animal has infinite energy dogs also have physical and psychological limits and they are not machines that can be turned on and off to see you having service dogs or working animals is one thing but they need breaks slate aim and having all their social and physical needs to be fulfilled.
