The Chihuahua is a native of Mexico and there are many myths surrounding the dogs ancestors they were believed to be spirit guides that protected souls as they traveled through the underworld some dog experts say that they were among America’s first native dogs and others believe that they were brought to the new world after the Spanish conquest of Mexico.

 

The first Chihuahua were registered by the American kennel club in 1904 was named and the Chihuahua club of America was formed in 1923.

 

Today the Chihuahua ranks 13th among the breeds registered by the AKC (American Kennel Club)

They believed yellow Chihuahuas escorted their owners to the afterlife the dogs were often sacrificed before their owner died so they would be there waiting.

 

Chihuahuas on the other hand were believed to take on their owner's sins and were often sacrificed in their funeral pyres.

Chihuahuas smooth coated shed but it's not too much so it's manageable for all but the most house proud people brush them weekly with a rubber grooming glove or soft bristle brush to remove dead hair and keep the skin and coat healthy use a stainless steel comb to remove tangles from the hair on the ears legs and tail.

 

Chihuahua’s big ears should be kept clean with a solution recommended by the veterinarian and the rest is just primary care.
