The Pomeranian also known as pom is the tiniest of the spitz breed of dogs .They're compact active and bright-eyed dogs with an endless curiosity and a sense that they're the cutest thing around.
The Pomeranian also known as German dwarf Spitz is one of the most popular dog breeds in the world for their small size and cute appearance.
These dogs have been lovingly nicknamed the little dog who thinks he can for being small but acting big.

History
The Pomeranian was born in an ancient Dutch he called Pomerania situated between Germany and Poland unlike the present Pomeranian the first specimens were a much larger size basically they were used as livestock dogs they controlled sheep cattle and deer.
Pomeranian came from large working dogs from the arctic regions commonly known as the wool Spitz or Spitz type and are considered to have descended from the German spits.
Breed is said to have acquired its named after Pomeranian an area in northern Poland and Germany the place is credited with the breeding that led to the original Pomeranian type dog
They slowly spread to Europe and then across the Atlantic
The AKC (American kennel club) registered the first Pomeranian in 1888 and recognized the breed in 1900.
The England’s royal family was involved in their revolution in 1767 queen Charlotte of England brought two Pomeranian named phoebe and mercury to England paintings of the dogs depicted them as being much larger than the modern breed reportedly weighing about 30 to 50 pounds.
Queen Charlotte’s granddaughter queen Victoria was also a Pomeranian enthusiast. One of her favorite dogs was a small red sable Pomeranian probably named Windsor’s Marco.
Marco was reported to weigh only 12 pounds and was exhibited in 1891 causing the smaller Pomeranian to become immediately popular.
During Queen Victoria’s lifetime the size of the breed dropped by a reported 50 percent.

Pomeranian amassed high popularity throughout the years they've become the companions of many famous and notable personalities
Royal owners from Queen Victoria’s time also included the wife of Francis napoleon the first Josephine and king George fourth of England
The martin Luther artist Michelangelo, physicist Isaac newton and composer Mozart are also known to have owned the Pomeranian
Personality
Contrary to their small stature Pomeranian like to think that they're a lot bigger than they actually are.
They have a take charge temperament and are not afraid of strangers or other animals
Pomeranian can get aggressive with other dogs and humans to try to prove themselves.
Keep an eye on your Pomeranian and don't let it challenge a bigger dog
Socialize these dogs plenty as puppies to avoid aggressive behavior
NATURE
They're better off as indoor dogs under high heat and humidity your Pomeranian can get overheated and get a heat stroke when outside observe them carefully for signs of overheating and take them inside immediately.
Because of their small size owls, eagles, hawks and other wild animals can perceive Pomeranian as prey
They're a popular target for dog nappers too so never leave your Pomeranian outside unattended for a long time.
Coat Color
Colors of this breed are mainly -:

Physical features
Their expression is lively and fun they have medium-sized eyes that are slightly slanting and dark
Their ears are small and triangular.
The muzzle neither too long nor too flat is not very thick but not sharp so it's in proportion to the skull

Pomeranian and Toddlers
Pomeranian are good with children but they're best suited to homes with older children who can handle them carefully
Many breeders refuse to sell puppies to homes with very young children for good reason they can be easily injured if they're accidentally dropped or stepped on Pomeranian..
Pomeranian are delicate dogs and they prefer the company of adults or older kids.
Always teach your kids how to approach and touch dogs and always supervise interactions between them.
Training
Training them can be a handful although, smart Pomeranians tend to be headstrong at times this can make them tough to train especially with house training.
They could be stubborn about going outside to potty especially if it's rainy or cold.
Clicker training with positive reinforcement and create training is recommended for your Pomeranian and remember that
“Patience and consistency is the key to development”
They're prone to excess barking despite their small size Pomeranians come with a loud bark they'll bark at anything out of the ordinary and will make sure they'll wear you this makes them excellent watch dogs however it's essential to teach your pom when to stop barking or it can get excessive start early and be consistent to teach them the quiet command.
Grooming
Pomeranian have a thick standout double coat a soft dense and fluffy undercoat and a harsh top coat
Males shed their undercoats once a year but females shed when they're in season after they deliver a litter and when they're stressed.
Brush and comb your Pomeranian at least twice weekly to distribute skin oils and keep the code healthy you can bathe them as often as you like whether daily or monthly.
They're prone to dental problems to brush their teeth daily if possible and trim their nails regularly
Health
Tiny dogs often have big health problems and the Pomeranian is no exception.
They're prone to-:
- Epilepsy
- Eye problems
- Hip dyspepsia
- Paddler
- Lexacin
- Collapsed trachea
Also look out for infections allergies, dental problems and injuries 😊
Don't forget to schedule a regular visit to the vet for your pups long and healthy life remember to get health clearances. When adopting one as well.
